U-60 U-60SD U-60ESD

Celazole® PBI (polybenzimidazole) is a unique and highly stable linear hetrocyclic polymer. PBI exhibits excellent thermal stability,resistance to temperature, chemicals, and acid and base hydrolysis. Depending upon the application and duration, PBI can withstand temperatures as high as 430C, and, in short bursts, even up to 760C. PBI is a thermoplastic polymer with a Tg of 427C. It does not burn. PBI also maintains its properties at temperatures as low as -196C. Ideally suited for extreme environments, PBI can be formed into stock shapes and subsequently machined into high precision finished parts. Since PBI does not have a melt point, moldings from PBI polymer can only be formed in a patented high temperature, high pressure compression molding process. PBI is highly resistant to deformation, and has low hysterisis losses and high elastic recovery. PBI exhibits ductile failure, and may be compressed to over 50% strain without fracture. Celazole® PBI has the highest compressive strength of any thermoplastic or thermosetting resin at 58 ksi. There is no weight loss or change in compressive strength of Celazole® PBI exposed to 500F in air for 500 hours. At 700F, no weight or strength change takes place for 100 hrs.

Celazole® U-60 PBI is an unfilled PBI polymer that is most suitable for compression molding. This grade is commonly molded and machined into precision parts for industrial, chemical and petrochemical industries; glass making equipment; chemical synthesis catalyst support systems; aerospace and other extreme environments.

U-60SD [ Top ]

U-60SD Celazole® PBI is a high purity variant of U-60 PBI that is available from selected licensees as a stock shape or part. This material contains less than 1 ppm each of any metallic ion and is highly suited for semiconductor and electronic applications demanding high ionic purity. Physical properties are identical to U-60 grade.

U-60ESD [ Top ]

U-60ESD Celazole® PBI is an electro-static dissipative (ESD) variant of U-60 PBI that is available from selected licensees as a stock shape or part. This material incorporates carbon to increase the conductivity of the final part, and is useful to end-users where static is a concern.
